yes, and no Sep 2, 2012

My untidiness accumulates until it reaches critical mass, usually about once a month, followed by a couple of hours of industrious filing, throwing out and dealing with all those niggling notes on scraps of paper that have been quietly pleading for attention over the last couple of days/weeks/months/sometimes years!

I then feel all self-righteous for a bit, and try to keep things ship-shape for a while, but the descent into chaos is of course inevitable, and the cycle starts again.

I do work better (or at least feel more professional) when the decks are clear, but any victory against entropy is only temporary in my case, I'm afraid.

Yes, extremely Sep 2, 2012

That is what I said.

Then I looked around, and realised that two or three days of not feeling quite up to par have taken their toll. If what I am looking at is a reflection of my general state of being right now, I may well be doomed.

By workspace, I am including the entire room in which I work, not just the desk and other bits.

I tend to put any papers in order last thing at night, if not exhausted, which normally involves cleaning the desk surface, and straightening deviant pens, etc. like Nicole.

The morning is reserved for sweeping and dusting and cleaning of keyboard and screen. Hands always immaculate. Coffee and water only allowed.

My workspace is an impossible mess. However, my work is always done on time, my activities are well-organized, my bills are paid on time and that's what counts.

I was beginning to think I was the only one.

It depends which desktop you mean. Sep 3, 2012

The physical surface has numerous piles, all related to current projects. When they reach a critical mass, and they are no longer needed, they get filed.

The desktop on my computer, otoh, is immaculate. Everything is filed in folders, organized in subfolders. All completed jobs have a description tag on the folder, etc.

The desk is where I live; the computer is where I think.
