Okay, I lied Mar 20, 2012

I did turn down two assignments yesterday for two different reasons. One client is excellent. The other client is good, but its project managers have poor manners when it comes to request availability. They just send you what looks like instructions, regardless of whether you are available or not, as if you were their employee. Grr.

None Mar 20, 2012

Not the right time to say "no" to incoming jobs unless they are humiliating in terms of rates. )

Not a bad idea Mar 20, 2012

Much more than 3, for sure!

I think we ought to care. When I used to work in-house, we would write down rejected offers. That was very important to consider hiring new staff or not.

I've not done that over the last 5 years I've been working as a freelancer, but just this month, I decided to start doing it, so this polls comes right on time. Since March 1st, I turned down 24 offers. I count only those offers which I may have accepted if I had had less work going on, not those bulk offers from unknown agencies offering ridiculous conditions.

I keep telling myself I am going to start keeping track of rejected projects because it would be a good way of gauging when there is enough excess demand for my services to raise rates.

- but all were related to going away for 9 days to spend some time looking at the waves in the ocean instead of at a computer screen.

I turned down 3 Mar 21, 2012

Mainly becuse the rate was insanely low and i felt that it was an insult for my profession to be offered such a rate.

About 20 in February Mar 21, 2012

I keep track of requests from individuals/agencies/organizations that I haven't worked with before, and there were 15 in February. In addition, I turned down some from my existing client base.
