I have now received several enquiries, from different people, always about translating a book of theirs — either on project management, or on educationg your children at home. In each case, the book appears to be written and copyrighted by someone quite different.
As usual, they offer payment up front (or 50% at least, mention paying by cheque, and... and...

One of the previous scammers was a [name concealed], and another was a woman.
In all instances, they ignored my requests to send their company or personal details.
Here is the latest message I received from an earlier enquirer:
Hello, I should have contacted you but i had an accident that was why i didn't mail you all these while i want to know if you got the check i instructed my colleague to post to you. kindly get back to me asap. Thanks, Regards.
This person has used 3 different e-mail addresses: [email protected], @gmail.com, and @hotmail.com
Note that I received this message on 21st September, following up an enquiry dating back to last December!

I am wondering if you got a check? If you did - was it for much more than the amount you quoted them to do the job. Did they request you send the excess money back or onward to someone else via western union etc.??

No, I didn't get a cheque — despite his claim, he couldn't have sent me one, since I refused to give him my address details until he had given me his, which of course he never did.
As you say, I feel sure the scam would have been the same...
