I do a lot of marketing verbatims and the responses of the focus groups have sometimes led me to buy ice cream, hair care products and laundry detergents, all of which are more expensive than the usual brands I buy.
The ice cream was great, my daughter loved the shampoo and conditioner, but I didn't notice any advantage of the laundry detergent over my usual (and much, much cheaper) brand.

Oh, I would love to! It's completely different to translate a Word page and send it back to the client, and to actually see it printed on a product's label. I guess I am too much into highly technical manuals of stuff I would normally never buy: mill relining machines, graders, baling machines, paper pulp machines, an extensive book about massages (never got a professional one), etc. One of the last things I had to translate was the Business Class Menu for XX Airlines, and I always fly Economy C... I have translated many food related franchise stores. Some are very well-known, and you see their stores everywhere in major towns in the US (as well as in Japan and Asian, and European countries).
Material I translated were mostly for employee training though.

I worked on a long project translating documents for a well-known sportswear company, and although I'm not the sport type, I ended up buying a few items from their brand after translating how marvelous they were. They're really good by the way, but I still don't use them that often... :-s

I translated the packaging for some well-known sweets and for wafer biscuits.
I got free copies of various magazines, exhibition catalogues and books I translated, so I didn't have to buy them!
Fortunately I've never needed the autopsy tables and body bags ...

.... possibly, in fact probably yes, but I don't actually recall. I do a lot of marketing verbatims too and am quite easily influenced... maybe some sort of food product, or a recipe from a menu I've translated, for example. But it's not really the kind of information I tend to store.

I translate regularly materials for a leading brand of sports instruments. When my father was in need of a product that would help him get in shape again, I did not have a doubt: I bought them one of the models of the brand. My father reports that he is extremely happy with the producto.

Like many of you, I rarely translate texts about standard consumer products. The only such text that I can recall translating was for a manufacturer and retailer of traditional sweets and desserts in northern Greece which, unfortunately, has no outlets in the Athens area. If I lived in Thessaloniki, however, I'm sure I'd have gained a couple of kilos by now!

I don't usually translate marketing texts but I did translate some pet food product info sheets. Since I have no pets, never had to buy any products of that certain brand, though.
Hmm, there were also some agricultural products of chemical nature which I'd never need to buy, not to mention that I would never want to eat anything treated with them.

Several times, actually. On one memorable occasion, the content I translated *kept me* from buying a product...
Some time ago, I translated loads of technical materials about a certain car that made me desperately want to buy it. Out of my price range, unfortunately.
