Hey, wait... Jul 23, 2011

I just got home from Svalbard.

I know I will tour Europe and possibly other parts of the world without leaving my backyard in August, hosting expats and foreign friends who are expected to visit. I also know I'll spend a weekend at my son's in Britain in September (everything is ready on my side, but I think they'll wait till I get there before they prepare the spare room for me

I do have dreams for real

I do have dreams for real (more extended) travels but I need to earn the necessary money first.

This past month we hosted several guests, it was actually a nice change to spend a relaxing vacation at home, with all the family coming here, rather than travelling with our young children. Monday is back to the grind for me... someone has to work in August, right?

Next stop Jul 23, 2011

My wife and I have everything ready for Philadelphia. Before going to Heaven, there are lots of places left to see down here.

Germany Jul 23, 2011

Just driving up to Germany to collect my daughter who's been studying for a year in Munster.
We'll probably spend 3 days there, expect some tearful farewells from all the friends she's made there.
I just hope we can get all the stuff she's gathered into the car ....

Recently back from a vacation in Maine - Mexico probably next Jul 23, 2011

Maine is lovely, but I can't say the same for air travel. These days I think twice about traveling. Maybe a workshop in Phoenix in November.

I'd rather have a destination I can get to by car. I live 25 minutes from the US-Mexico border and go there often. So it's a safe bet that Mexico will be my next foreign country.

For years I believed that two foreign trips a year was about right - a little adventure, but not hectic--and pretty much stuck to that number..

Blighty... Jul 24, 2011

After 8 fantastic years in Brazil, will be dividing my time increasingly between here and the UK.

Recent visits to see family have reminded me how much the UK has to offer in terms of life quality, culture and leisure, despite its recent economic woes.

I aim to cultivate business contacts in the next extended trip, and would certainly be interested to hear from anyone who divides their time between these two locations in a similar fashion.

Cheers!

in São Luís do Maranhão Jul 24, 2011

Georgia Morgan:
in São Luis do not forget to eat one (or more) of the
"Caldeirada de camarão" especially the one where they shell
the shrimp before they cook them
(it is too much work to shell them while you are trying to eat them)
The "Caldeirada do Germano" was the best - but he has passed away -
Surely someone learned his recipe before he passed.

Also take in a "Bumba-meu-boi" if you are there at the right time of year.
