Hello,

I am working in Word 2007, using Trados 2007 and I can open only the first three sentences. From the fourth sentence on, I cannot open any segment. The right hand slider slides down to the last paragraph and I don't even get a message of any kind.

I will be grateful if anybody has an idea what the problem might be?

Workaround Jul 9, 2011

Hi, Emilia,

As I know, your Trados doesn't work with Office 2007. Please try to save your file in the 2003 format (as .doc, not .docx). Then, open and translate that file with TafEditor. After translation, transform your file back to .docx - that's all. Otherwise, you are obliged to obtain Studio 2009 or something.

Good like!

An idea Jul 9, 2011

Check if the rest of th text is inside a table with the grid lines hidden. When Trados finds tables it skips them.

Thanks Jul 9, 2011

Thank you Elias.

However, there are no tables within the text.

failed attempt Jul 9, 2011

Hi Alexey,

Thank you for your advice. It sounds very reasonable and I tried it right away. I saved the document as a Word 97-2003 doc and the result was the same as before. The right-hand slide bar slided rapidly down to the last paragraph and the third sentence wouldn't open. I am beginning to think that the file might be corrupt.
Is there a way to check and repair a corrupt file? Thanks again.

Emilia

RTF? Jul 9, 2011

I have had that problem but I was not even able to open the first segment I order to open it I had to save the file as rtf.If this does not work I suggest you use the repair file-command within Trados

Incompatibility Jul 10, 2011

Emilia,

Have you tried that with TagEditor? If not, Word 2007 behaves with .doc exactly the same as with .docx. That is, transformation itself is not a target, but a transition stage (one of). The point is that Trados 2007 is incompatible with Office 2007, and your success with them first three sentences was accidental one.

The TagEditor allows to eliminate this an incompatibility and is much more robust a tool then Word + Workbench combination. And of course, the file itself may be corrupted, there is no warranty at all. But, while corruption is an assumption only, incompatibility mentioned is a fact.

Tag Editor Jul 10, 2011

Hi Alexey,

Thank you! I saved the docx file as a doc file (the older version) but it seems to me that Tag Editor only works with ttx files. It wouldn't open a Word file. I don't know what further transformations to do and how I should do them.

Best regards,
Emilia

Smart TagEditor Jul 10, 2011

No, Emilia, TagEditor do work with .doc, and .xls, and .ppt. Please right-click that file in Explorer, and pick the "Open with..." command in the context menu. Then, selection window appears. Pick the Tag Editor in that window (if it is not in the list, click "Browse" button and find TagEditor.exe). Tag Editor will request to open the Translation Workbench - accept this. So, your .doc will be transformed to .ttx, and off you go!

Further transformations Jul 10, 2011

Once tranalation is complete, select "Save target as..." in "File" menu, and you'll get clean translated .doc. Finally, save it as .docx, and your tortures are over!

Thanks Jul 11, 2011

Thank you very much Alexey!

I have obviously used only a limited part of the potential of Tag Editor so far

Best regards,
Emilia
