Hi everyone,

I get this message whenever I try to open my translation of a ttx file. I cannot open the file and neither can the client.
What's wrong with my file?

Thanks for your help.
Caroline

What are you using to open the TTX file? May 13, 2011

OmegaT cannot open TTX files itself.
So, you may be using:
- TOXIC (a TTX converter).
- A conversion to XLIFF with Okapi Rainbow.
- The Okapi plugin, which adds TTX support in OmegaT.

Whichever it is, your issue is probably not an obvious one.

I recommend going to the OmegaT Yahoo support group, where both OmegaT and Okapi competent people may try to find what's happening.

Thanks Didier.
I have the Okapi plugin.
I have already worked on ttx files with OmegaT before and that was fine. I really can't see where I went wrong this time. I don't even think the error comes from me in fact. I'm starting to suspect the original file.

The error message seems to be an Okapi message, which means that you're probably seeing it in OmegaT itself (although I'm just guessing here). Am I right?

Does OmegaT give you that error message when you use a completely fresh TTX file that you haven't started translating yet? To check for it, create a new, separate OmegaT project with just that one fresh TTX file in it, and launch OmegaT.

I assume your client is trying to open the file in TagEditor. Have you also tried opening the file in TagEditor? I mean, can you open the fresh, untranslated TTX file in TagEditor also? Or do you just have trouble opening one that OmegaT had worked on?

I'm assuming you're using the TTX plugin (based on the error message). The fact that the plugin is giving you this error message means that the TTX file can't be understood by the plugin. The fact that the client (who I presume is using TagEditor) can't open the file either tells me that your original TTX file is somehow broken.

Do you get that error message when you load the project in OmegaT, or only when you reach a certain specific segment in OmegaT?

Probably not.

I'm starting to suspect the original file.

This is quite possible, as Samuel suggests.

The only way to make sure is by sending the files (both the source and target documents, and possibly the project's translation memory as well) to people able to analyse them.

I do recommend subscribing to the Yahoo support group.

File is completely parsed at loading May 13, 2011

Normally, that cannot happen.

The file is completely parsed before being available in the editor.
Any XML parsing error cannot normally happen later.

I am still working on this issue. I have delivered the translation to the client though (pasted the translated text onto a Word doc. Not great but at least they have something and the text was pretty short anyway).

After I finished translating the doc and saved it, I tried to open the target file (translated text) and that's when I got the error message. I can always open the source document though. If the source file was broken or corrupted, would I be able to open it?

I will definitely use the Yahoo support group from now on but will probably not accept any more ttx files for quite a while...

With what application are you trying to open the target document? May 17, 2011
