TagEditor crashes after an error message "Failed to Create java Virtual Machine".

My solution is: I close Trados and Workbench, then I delete as many files as possible in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp.

TagEditor works smooth again when I relauch it.
Hope this helps!

Thank you Mathieu - It worked in my case.

Does anyone who managed to get their problem resolved with any of the suggestions in this post, also run TRADOS 2009 with SP3?

Do you have the latest INX filter hotfix installed on your PCs?
You can find the latest INX filter hotfix at http://talisma.sdl.com/article.aspx?article=3368&p=1.

If the hotfix was not installed, after installing it, you will need to create a new TTX file and use to translate.

If the hotfix is installed, please try to adjust your Java Virtual Machine Size, setting it to the LOWEST value possible.
Close Trados applications first, then
1. Go to Start > Programs > SDL International > SDL Trados 2007 > Trados > Filters > Filter Settings 2. Under Java Virtual
Machine Size set the checkmark in front of "Change Java Virtual Machine Size" and enter a lower value than the current one
for the "Maximum size".
3. Save.

Please note, that sometimes it helps to reboot the PC to free Java Virtual Machine resources and to not start other applications which might use Java Virtual
resources.

This did it for Trados 8.0. Thanks for the tip! Jan 14, 2011

I have java 21 (last update) and in my case no one fix worked: Talisma, Proz, other forums

finally I clicked on Add/Remove Programs then Custom (Personalizzata in Italian), then I choosed the Microsoft Virtual Machine instead of Java Virtual Machine and it worked !!!

so I think it is a Java bug added by this recent update, but the Vertere blog fix didn't work too

hope it helps in other situations

Claudio

It worked for me Jan 28, 2011

I'm using SDL Trado 2007 and confronted the same problem today as I get an error message saying "Failed to create Java Virtual Machine" while getting/saving a translation unit with TagEditor. Thanks to advices input by all of you here, it appears I have somehow revolved this issue for now to meet a tight deadline! Thank you!

Filter settings Feb 1, 2011

It helped me when in SDL Trados Filter Settings -> Java Virtual Machine Size
I checked "change java virtual memory size" and chose minimal values (64/128)

Thank you very much Parsai and Alexander! Feb 9, 2011

I followed your instructions and they worked like a dream. Now the error is no longer coming up and my file has stopped crashing. It's crazy how many seemingly complicated errors have such a simple solution.

Cheers,

Sarah

Java update 20 Jun 22, 2011

In my case one of my customers provided the solution. It seems Trados is not compatible with Jaba update 20 when working with INX files. All you have to do is go to the Control Panel and reverse Java back to update 17. Just uninstall Update 20 (or later) and then reinstall update 17.

I started to get the ominous error when pretranslating TTX files (and I am pretty sure they were produced from INX). The reason for the reappearance of the problem was my cleaning of the installed software: I deinstalled a number of deprecated Java versions, keeping just the Update 20.

I reinstalled the Update 17, deactivated the Update 20 in the console and things are back tpo normal.
