No Nov 7, 2010

but not because I would not marry a translator. It's just that I am happily married to a non-translator. No discrimination here.

Theoretically... Nov 7, 2010

I would not mind marrying a translator in theory, but in practice I am already married to a wonderful man who is a committed multilingual. It doesn't matter. There is much more involved in a happy marriage than career choice.

Congrats to the happily married (to translators and non-translators) and good luck, Jenny. I have to admire your initiative.

The choices are once again lacking Nov 7, 2010

The was the 'already married to a translator'; however, where was the 'already married to someone in a different profession' button?

Or was that supposed to be covered by 'other'?

In which case, my 'other' half is doing fine, thanks, and I'm not considering a trade in on professions.

Other Nov 7, 2010

I'm already married, not to a translator.

But theoretically, I see no problem in marrying a translator.

Why Not ? Nov 7, 2010

Dear

Very nice question
I get married before I became a translator
I knew my husband when we were studying in college, so I did not think of this question before
We have already very different careers and different interests
This makes our talking interesting, every one talk about some thing new
Finally
Marriage is not about career or love only, it is about life

Unlike Samah, I believe Marriage is about love only:) Nov 7, 2010

and jobs and careers can be changed. I know I did. In this time and day it's unfair to discriminate because of someone's job, since people are no longer having the luxury of safe careers and jobs. Tomorrow a software will do what we do and maybe the ones that married a translator would find themselves married to someone else?:)

I am a confirmed bachelor. I never married before and hopefully not even after this post But I think for a couple that one should be speaker (of a foreign language) and other will be a translator. Then they will be made-for-each-other!!

Work is a very common meeting point Nov 7, 2010

I see nothing against marrying a translator per se, although I know my husband sometimes regrets it! Although he more often says "I knew I should never have married a teacher" when I find some "interesting" point of grammar or neologism to mention to him.

The thing is, I wasn't a teacher or a translator when we met - I was a programmer and he was my boss! And I didn't know I was marrying a future singer-songwriter, ei

The thing is, I wasn't a teacher or a translator when we met - I was a programmer and he was my boss! And I didn't know I was marrying a future singer-songwriter, either! You never know what life holds in store - all you can do is just go with the flow and do what seems right at the time!

I can imagine being married to a translator... Nov 7, 2010

... and trying to wind down from work and ending up having heated Kudoz-style debates at the dinner table over whether or not a certain collocation is idiomatic or not.

too late Nov 8, 2010

As I've already found (had found for me) a partner.
I'm not sure I'd want to marry me though (from a professional point of view - I really am a cuddly person otherwise)

Yes, as long as we don't work into the same language Nov 14, 2010

I identify very personally with my translating and writing style. I wouldn't want to get into discussions over who's "right." Or walk on tip-toe trying to be polite. We would have to have some ground rules.

I think the ideal combination is to have a partner who is native in one of my source languages. That was the case with my husband.

Why not, I would love to marry a translator in my language combination Jul 16, 2012

As I work in the EnglishChinese language pair, it will be beneficial to have a partner at work and for life.
I am still looking for one currently. Good luck to myself.
