Dear Colleague, Well, I use the Alps Pointing Device, but my OS is Windows XP. In my case, I right click the Touch pad icon near the clock in the bottom-right corner of the screen, then click "Mouse Properties." When a dialog box appears, I click the "USB Mouse connection" tab. Then I have three options to choose: 1. Touch pad to remain active alongside the external mouse, 2. Touch pad to become automatically disabled when the external mouse in connected, and 3. T... Just to let you know: If you're using GNOME 2.28 or above (e.g. Ubuntu 9.10 or above), one of the options in the mouse config panel is to disable the touchpad when typing. Yes, you heard that right: as soon as you start typing, it gets disabled, and automagically resumes when you stop. Very useful to keep it from interfering and still keep it running. It turned out that I had to use Vaio Control Centre and there was an option to disable the pointing device.
