I am looking for free translation memory software. I have found some on the Internet. Do you use something like that? Can you recommend something?

What have you found, what are you looking for? May 6, 2010

Hi Zerus,

Instead of us randomly suggesting all sorts of things for you, why don't you tell us what you have found sofar, what your needs are and whatyou are looking for.

And why do you want to use a free tool anyway, the professional tools are not extremely costly, and you can earn them back in just a few assignments (not to mention the higher speed and consistancy of your translations)

Ed

OmegaT May 6, 2010

...seems to be the best out there. That doesn't mean it's very good, though. The feature list and the sophistication of the UI is quite a bit behind commercial tools IMO.

basically, I have found Wordfast Anywhere and Omega. I am just starting so to say, so I would like to wait a little bit. I translate mainly online articles for that moment. In the near future, maybe I will be able to purchase something more professional.

best,
zerus

Forgot about WF Anywhere May 6, 2010

I'd say WF anywhere is probably your best bet. It may disappear or become a paid service at any time, but as long as it's there it's probably your best bet, unless you have reservations about privacy.
I never tried it but it looks like it has all the main features you'd want, so if it runs at acceptable speed it's pretty hard to beat for the price.

wf classic 3.35x May 6, 2010

Some may consider it to be a bit outdated yet I find it pretty handy and it does almost everything I want. The main reason - it's quite simple and light-weight.

P.S. if you signed NDA then comply with it - no meaningful online stuff.

Wordfast May 20, 2010

Wordfast Classic and Pro both have free trial versions, and the only limitation on them is the TM size. I've been using the Wordfast Classic trial version for a couple years and have found it to be quite adequate for my needs so far.
