I like the idea, really. Any possibility to do something with French? English to French or Spanish to French? Just wondering... Irène Guinez | | | Would be grand too! | Jan 26, 2010 |
Irène Guinez wrote: Any possibility to do something with French? Irene, this indeed would make total sense to me. And any language really. Yes, OK, this is sort of a game, but the interesting fact is that it would be a controlled experiment that can be replicated with any language pair really. I have already posted the starting conditions and have selected a text that, although maybe more difficult for non-translators, does not pose significant translation challenges. Once we get started I will also post other details about the idea. Please, please, I am really eager to start! Only one more Spanish-English translator and we will have a go at it! Somebody out there who is brave and daring, get in touch! | | | MarinaM Argentina Local time: 20:10 English to Spanish + ... English-Spanish | Jan 26, 2010 |

I think you've got your numbers, but you could put me on the waiting list! | | | Nothing published until the end | Jan 27, 2010 |

I will appreciate your opinion on this. What do you guys think? A colleague rightly points out that this was ambiguous. Of course nothing will be published until the end of the iteration. It would be interesting though to see --once it all is finished-- what the text looked like already after some iterations.

OK guys. The experiment is running now. The text has been dispatched to the first participant. The participant lists in the two target languages has been randomized by Microsoft Excel (I have had no influence in that), so there is no connection in the order in which you declared your wish to participate and the order in which the text is dispatched. The team has been selected already and the experiment is in progress, but I will keep you as a 12th available person in case any of the colleagues already engaged has commitments that would make it impossible to participate. The text is rather short, as short of time we could sometimes be! We'll be in touch. | | | Should have thought of something | Jan 28, 2010 |
Dear colleagues, I just noticed that the information used in the experiment and a mention of its source in my delivery email might prove to be damaging for a good reason: the text in English can be found over the Internet... Dumb me! I hope it is OK for you all if we use a different text that cannot be located in Internet? Sorry! I should have thought about this possible source of contamination when I chose the text!! | |

Hi there, I would like to participate in the Spanish > English combination so if anyone drops out due to other commitments, I am your back-up! Looking forward to seeing the results! Keelin | | | Survey about the translation iteration experiment | Jan 28, 2010 |
Tomás Cano Binder, CT wrote: Now, have you ever wondered what would happen with human translators? Would the result be better or worse? How much of the original meaning, register, and style would get lost in the process? Would the message still be there in full in the final text. Tomás and I have thought that it would be also very interesting to know the distance between the prior perception and the real results of the translation iteration experiment for what we have created a very small survey with only 4 questions. Please, complete the survey here. The survey results will be published in this same thread, once the translation iteration experiment has finished.
