Hi,

Am I the only one who finds the new IATE site practically useless? Instead of being able to compare translation possibilities, you have to go into individual "Full entry" sections. It can't have been designed by translators.

It is a translation resource that I use everyday and everyone in the EU pays for it. I seem to remember they made a previous modification to the site about 3 years ago, when they made it less useful than the previous format.

I think the bug has been repaired... Nov 25, 2009

I know what you mean. I have seen it too and couldn't imagine how someone could think this was useful.
But fortunately, it has been put right somewhere in the last couple of days. IATE is its normal self again!

Cheers,
Michiel

That's strange... Nov 25, 2009

because I tried it just a minute ago, and it's fine. Perhaps we're not visiting the same site?
This is the URL I use:
http://iate.europa.eu/iatediff/SearchByQueryLoad.do?method=load

They were having gremlins this weekend Nov 25, 2009

Gordon --

You're definitely not the only one affected: it looks like they had some bugs over the last couple of days and had maintenance scheduled (not sure which caused which).

I do not have any problem with the new IATE site. However, I am firmly convinced that we should demand to go back to the previous format.

The motive is not his bad functioning. With the previous model, the URLs were explicit (the URLs contained the searched word) and this was allowing to integrate easely the IATE direct search with other CAT tools or external tools. This is not possible anymore or it is quite more difficult. ¿Do you agree?

previous format Nov 25, 2009

All I can remember is that the previous format was more useful, but I can't remember exactly why. It seemed to allow more comparison and cross-referencing and stuff, as you suggest.

It's a pity... Jan 11, 2010

I bothered by the same issue as you. Why they do this to us?
