Many Italian agencies use "Trad" (for "traduzione") in their name as well. To my English ears, "trad" evokes traditional, old-fashioned, so I don't think it works well for the anglophone market.

would not work in France, though. Some companies tried it some years ago (and, believe me, they had more than just one leading A - in some cases up to 7!) and France Telecom thus decided to implement one or more algorithm(s), so that the search for e.g. "translation+services" in the Yellow Pages would return aleatoric and not alphabetical results.

I give my company a short name that is a combination of my source languages and target language, followed by “translations”. I prefer short, synthetical words for a company name.
Samuels Murray’s comment is very useful and may be you should consider it in your choice.

I will start freelancing in a few weeks and have also wondered about what company name I should use for my website.
I have come to the conclusion that using your own name is good business sense, since it makes you appear more "reliable". This is also the reason why I have enclosed a picture of myself on my website. As someone said, you should use your own name on this site. I, for one, will use my full name as soon as I start my business.

But I also think it's good to use a company name that indicates what your business is about (obviously translation) and, better still, that gives an indication as to what specialization you have (Do you offer creative translation? Do you specialize in medical translation? etc.). Ask yourself what makes you so different from any other translator.
My own personal solution is to coin a company name that has my initials and refers to my trade (SA ...). My full name will appear on my website.

My suggestion (which I have used for my company, which I had to open otherwise most companies and agencies would not offer me work) is to combine the names of yourself and your partner(s), if any.
For example, my company name is Maripaul, a combination of MARIlene (my darling wife who also happens to be my business partner) and PAUL - we thought Maripaul would be more pleasing to say than Paulmari.

Despit the comments about Trad and Trans, I would think "Translations" would be fine as part of a name. You could even combine them - I doubt if anyone has thought of "Tradtrans" or "Transtrad"!
Or you could use a translation-related phrase, preferably in one of the languages you work in, so if you work for the Italian market something like "Traduzzioni Jeff" may fit the bill.
Finally, if you want a Brazilian site, www.abletrans.com.br is available.
