I *seriously* thought I was the only one that did that!!

Good to know that I'm not alone... just don't know if that really is a GOOD thing...!

If your computer is ever off, you probably needn't be concerned about overusing it

IMing when in the same room Oct 15, 2009

Interestingly, it is far better to do it this way. If my wife is busy with something on the computer and I speak to her, then I'm *interrupting* her thoughts and she finds that annoying. But if she's busy and I send her an IM, then she can mentally switch off the one task and switch on the IM task, answer my query, and go back to her task, without experiencing the interruption as an interruption. I find the same when people speak to me while I translate versus when people send me an IM while I translate -- the latter is not perceived as an interruption, probably because you're in complete control of the convesation (from your point of view).

Funny, I also hear imaginary beeps of SMS messages from my mobile phone.

Should we start worrying?

Anyway, getting back on topic, here's a classic one. "You know you are working too hard on your computer when".... "instead of crying 'Help' you cry 'F1'"...

When you have some good idea while not at home, and get annoyed that you don't have your notebook with you, to quickly write it down before you forget it (completely ignoring the fact that you have an almost empty notebook made of paper with you).

Decades ago I read on the paper about a traffic accident caused by a jet pilot. He had made a perfect landing with a 737 at the airport, picked up his car, and was driving home on the freeway. Suddenly, all traffic stopped, but he never attempted to apply the brakes. Instinctively, he pulled the steering wheel towards him, but it didn't move, so he smashed his car against the next one.

Some people call me on the cell phone to ask when I'll be online with Skype.
