Dear All,

First of all, thank you for taking time to read this!

I am Romanian with English and Russian as my second languages.

At present, I am looking to improve my French to an advanced level which would enable me to use French professionally and especially to enable me to enroll in teaching French in the UK.

I have studied French for many years in school, I liked it and I was good at it. But at University I chose English and my French fell behind. I have teaching qualification gained Romania, but it does not include French.

Since I am in the UK, I don't see myself teaching English to native English speakers. It's rather the opposite, one always has still a lot to take on board. But I would like to specialize in French, for my own "ambition" and I need advice on what short course - 1-2 years, if any, of advanced French will enable me to improve my level for the purposes of teaching it in school to children aged from 6 years.
I don't feel like doing another BA.
Are there courses to include Teaching+another foreign language in the UK?
I would also like to hear about courses provided in France which would be recognised in UK for teaching purposes.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
Alla

several suggestions Jul 16, 2009

I don't know what the Alliance Française is like in England, but make sure you verify how advanced their courses are. If you were good in French in school, even though I can't know how good you were, perhaps the Alliance has little to offer.

Another suggestion would be to take some courses (if allowed) at university, even without getting a BA degree. I would definitely look into English to French translation courses or French literature (in French).

e-learning is also growing in France. Although most course offerings are more technical, there are other subjects where you would be intensely using the French language in an advanced level. Some providers allow students from abroad to register and take the courses.
