Researchers have found that an ancient whistling language, still used by about ten thousand people in north-east Turkey, involves both right and left hemispheres of the brain nearly equally. Until recently, it was thought that the task of interpreting language fell largely to the brain's left hemisphere, but the musical melodies and frequencies of whistled Turkish may make it an exception to this theory.
