cornerstone of the EU Explanation: One would be tempted to use here 'fundamental principle', but in the context of the EU this term has a rather specific meaning (four freedoms). So I suggest that you use "the cornerstone of the EU", also to avoid repetition with "democratic values and principles". Is this a newspaper article? The original is somewhat "terminologically unclear." |
