I think it is a sterile argument as to whether this traditional shadow play is "Greek" or "Turkish". In Cyprus, prior to the advent of television, this was a very popular form of entertainment in both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. In fact, it is a shared legacy of the multicultural Ottoman past from an era that predates the birth of national consciousness.

Burda Orjinal isim falan muhabbeti açıldı. O yüzden benim bunla ilgili birşeyler söylemem lazım. Bizim Alfabemiz İngilizce alfabesiyle aynı değildir. Aynı sesleri vermez. Nasıl bir Rus bir Çinli bir Arap bunu Latin alfabesine okunuşunu modifiye ediyorsa bizlerinde etmesi lazım. Hacivatı Hakivat olarak okutmaya başarılı çevirmenlik diyorsanız buna ilkokul çocukları bile güler.

Hacivat is a combination of "haci" and Ivaz. Haci is a name given to the pilgrims who have been to Mecca. Ivaz is a name. The word ivaz means "value". Therefore Haci Ivaz becomes Hacivat.
