Turkish term or phrase: buhar bombası

I am trying to spread information about events in Turkey on various Internet fora. I am stuck for the correct English equivalent of the weapon used in Taksim yesterday known in Turkish as 'buhar bombası'. There is no such thing as a 'steam bomb' in English, so I wonder what the correct English translation is. I would be grateful if anybody can help. For an example, the term appears several times in the following article:

Asker: Thanks for the suggestion, but doesn't a steam grenade send out scalding water, whereas this thing breaks up into a powder that inflames the skin?

Asker: Thanks, but that is a 'Yakıt buhar bombası'; I am not sure if it is the same thing.

Some says "gas bomb", but it has broader meaning. This was specifically for "tear gas".

Ok. Basically there are 3 kinds of gases mainly used as Riot Control Agents. There are CS Gas, CN Gas and CR Gas. As far a sI know, the large amount was CS Gas, referred to as "gas bomb". But, for apparently CN and CR gas are being used more limitedly, respectively.

Either way, they are all "tear gasses" and they all have "vapor " in them. So, the naming in the Newspaper is ambigious.

Asker: NB: Thank you for your help, but please note I am not asking about 'gaz bombası', but the specific and far more terrible weapon used in Taksim yesterday.

Asker: Thanks, but from the limited information I have from the Turkish press, these things come down as powder, not gas. This is chemical warfare on civilians.

Asker: Thanks for the reply, but as I have pointed about above, I am not asking about 'gaz bombası' - for which 'tear gas (cannister)' is the correct translation - but a specific type of device known in Turkish as 'buhar bombası'.
