till Explanation: Se referens nedan. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 59 mins (2010-06-20 18:09:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I think you are onto something Charles. Reading in material created in English on the web (not by translation), it seems that perhaps till is in more common use for the soil type. Wikipedia, in particular, has a section where it talks about moraines (as a formation) and till (as material): Title: Lateral moraines Text: The till is carried along the glacial margin until the glacier melts. Title: Ground moraines Text: Ground moraines are till covered areas with irregular topography and no ridges, often forming gently rolling hills or plains. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moraine -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2010-06-20 18:26:34 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- It seems like the "morän" entry in TNC 59 (in my separate reference) is at the very least unclear. Their definition is definitely talking about the material "morän", but the translation they are suggesting into English is "moraine" first and "till" second. They do not seem to have a separate entry for "morän" as a formation. There is however another entry in TNC 59: lermorän, moränlera boulder clay, till morän med lerhalt över 15 viktsprocent Lermorän har vanligen bildats av kalk- och lerbergarter eller i vissa områden av äldre sedimentär lera. ------------------ In other words, this second entry does show that TNC supports "till" (not moraine) for the material "morän". |
