...as a general rule I pick the answer that receives the most agreement. I completely take your point on board, but one of the main benefits of the kudoz is that it opens the discussion around the term further. Having said that, you do make a valid point about looking for a term that would "sit pretty" so to speak, so I do apologize to you for that.

With respect, Mel, given that homosexual behaviour remains a controversial issue, it would have been fairer of you to point out that you were looking for a feel-good term that would describe this proclivity in a positive light, instead of just a raw translation of the concept (and I am not convinced that "queer" is not a kind word for this; it is much more polite than "pervert" for instance). It seems now that you will eventually pick the answer that sits well with you emotionally, rather than the one that most closely renders the correct meaning. Of course, that is a choice for you to make.

My impression is that Brits use 'queer' more and Americans use queen more. Both were perjoratives previously, but have now been taken as more or less neutral/positive terms in many contexts. Maybe you found this one (http://www.odps.org/glossword/index.php?a=term&d=8&t=3076)? Your choice, then.
