I'm pretty sure this is an error, can anyone confirm?

Is this sentence definitely missing a "no" between "el cliente" and "espera"?

Si necesita una respuesta, el cliente espera la respuesta del servidor, sino continua su tarea.

Can "sino" be used without previous negation, or is this just obviously missing the 'no'?

"If a response is needed, the client does not await a reply, but instead continues with their task." ?

Explanation:
The no could be read as not missing, but I have my doubts about the use of sino in this way - should really be si no! But I DON'T have doubts about what they are saying! The whole sentence would read *If a reply/response is needed, the customer/client waits for the reply/response from the server, and if this is not forthcoming, the customer/client carries on with their task/work
