disagree  esperantisto: Во-первых, это не название, а номер. Во-вторых, и названия зачаствую переводятся. Например «площадь/улица Независимости» в большинстве случаев будет переводиться с любого на любой язык.

Asker: меня тоже смутило turns up, но автор не нейтив-спикер и, кажется, местами вольно обходится с английским языком, хотя книжка в таком варианте выходила в штатах. всё-таки, подозреваю, речь о пятой улице, исходя из окружающего контекста — там дальше говорится, что пятое авеню было жемчужиной, улицей иностранных посольств

Вообще "avenida" это проспект, но, как видно из примера, можно его и улицей назвать, так что, возможно, "calle cinque" - это она есть.

//Может быть, какой-то персонаж или сам автор называет ее здесь calle cinque именно по аналогии с венецианской улицей, по своей привычке?
Как если бы речь шла о Елисейских полях в Париже, а транслитерировали бы их как Eliseiskie polia. Трудно, конечно, представить такое, но теоретически возможно.
