Estoy traduciendo un informe sobre la visión de los animales, aquí se trata del perro. No veo cómo traducir bastón en este caso.

Sin embargo, los perros tienen mayor número de ***bastones***, lo que les permite ver en la oscuridad hasta 5 veces mejor que el hombre.
