Hi, this is from an article on Malaria and the rest of the sentence is 'las recurrencias cíclicas de la malaria ha tenido un gran impacto en la infraesturctura de salud con evidentes danos económicos y afectación laboral". Thanks in advance for your help!

effects on the working environment

Explanation:
I know it seems a bit long for only 2 words. I was thinking of "impact on work", but considering the previous part of the sentence where "impact" has already been used, I preferred to elaborate slightly to give the real sense of the term.

neutral  Muriel Vasconcellos: It's not about the workplace. The individual contracts malaria in the community and is then too sick to work productively.

-> That's more than obvious, Muriel, but when people fall sick and cannot attend to their work, affecting productivity, it has an effect on the working environment, wouldn't you say??? It's pretty clear-cut to me!

worker health

Explanation:
Malaria doesn't affect the working environment; it affects the worker, who can no longer produce. That's the whole point.

I worked with UN economist Gladys Conly on the book "Theh Impact of Malaria on Economic Development," and that's the whole point. Workers don't contract malaria in the workplace; they come to the workplace already sick.

What the second part means is that they become a burden on the health system because they need treatment. If they stayed home and didn't work, they might or might not be treated, but once they're in the workplace the need for treatment becomes apparent or even mandatory, depending on the circumstances.

disagree  margaret caulfield: I entirely agree with your reasoning for it's the same as mine, but it's rather superfluous to say that it affects the "worker" (I assume you mean "workers'") health.
