effects on the working environment Explanation: I know it seems a bit long for only 2 words. I was thinking of "impact on work", but considering the previous part of the sentence where "impact" has already been used, I preferred to elaborate slightly to give the real sense of the term. |

worker health Explanation: Malaria doesn't affect the working environment; it affects the worker, who can no longer produce. That's the whole point. I worked with UN economist Gladys Conly on the book "Theh Impact of Malaria on Economic Development," and that's the whole point. Workers don't contract malaria in the workplace; they come to the workplace already sick. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 8 hrs (2010-02-20 22:28:15 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- What the second part means is that they become a burden on the health system because they need treatment. If they stayed home and didn't work, they might or might not be treated, but once they're in the workplace the need for treatment becomes apparent or even mandatory, depending on the circumstances. |
