Spanish term or phrase: una plataforma comercial
I am not convinced about "commercial platform" as there are few instances of this, and none on UK sites, that I can find.

El pasado marzo, el maíz transgénico se convertía en la primera planta desarrollada en una plataforma comercial para usos médicos.

..to be commercially developed....
Explanation:
Abecarnil was originally developed as an anti-anxiety drug, but has not as yet been **commercially developed** for use in humans, instead so far mainly being used for research into the development of other new sedative and anxiolytic drugs.

This is a more similar context to yours:

For example Cryptoplepis sanguinolenta is principally threatened by wild collection because it is the root that is harvested. In recent years there has been increasing interest from the pharmaceutical industry in this plant and Cryptoplepis sanguinolenta is now **being commercially developed for the treatment of cancer.**

Explanation:
It seems that it would read this way (at least in a press release or news article) but I may be way off. I hope the phrase gives you ideas though.
