Spanish term or phrase: trabajo
I'm translating an article about strategic management and the cognitive school. It makes constant reference to published articles, books etc which it tends to describe as "trabajos" For example:
Al hilo de estas consideraciones aparecen una serie de trabajos que pretenden profundizar en el entendimiento de los procesos mentales de los individuos,
I'm unsure what to use - publication occurs to me. Works sounds odd.
Thanks in advance

disagree  philgoddard: It doesn't say anything about research in the Spanish. A work is simply a book, article or other piece of writing.

alternate a study/studies with research or publications

Explanation:
Depends on the context of the sentences.
"Work" is certainly not a good choice.

agree  Silvia Hanine-Studnicki: I think it is studies or publications because it would include books.

-> Yes, but it depends on the sentence. Many psychology "trabajos" would be based on research, whether articles, reports, studies or books. Thanks for your support. :-)

I don't agree with you that "works" sounds odd, Peter! A work is a piece of writing, simple as that.

neutral  Cinnamon Nolan: "A work" isn't used in modern English as a countable noun = an article, etc., tho' "work(s)" can be used to refer to the body of production of an artist, writer, etc., as well as "his/her work", expressions such as "a work in progress/of art"...
