Tech/Engineering - Physics / Noise emissions (Chile)
Spanish term or phrase: disminuido en 5
From a document on noise emissions legislation from Chile. Ideally I'd like help with the translation of the entire phrase, as it is a key part of the document:

NOTE: NPSeq = Equivalent Continuous Sound Pressure Level; NPSmáx = Maximum Sound Pressure Level.

Explanation:
Or minus 5. Disminuir is to decrease.

For each measurement, choose the greater of NPSeq and NPSmax less 5 db(A) and calculate the arithmetic mean of the resulting values.

reduced in 5db (decibels)

Explanation:
El resultado será "power reduced in 5db"

The decibel (dB) is a logarithmic unit used to express the ratio of two values of a physical ... (Field quantity ratio is also referred to as root-power ratio or amplitude ratio.) .... five one-thousandths of a bel would normally be written '0.05 dB', and not '5 mB'. ...... 1025. … the decibel represents a **reduction in power **of 1.258 times

The decibel (dB) is a logarithmic unit used to express the ratio of two values of a physical quantity. One of these values is often a standard reference value, in which case the decibel is used to express the level[a] of the other value relative to this reference
the number of decibels is ten times the logarithm to base 10 of the ratio of two power quantities
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decibel

DB calculator
+30 dB 1000
+20 dB 100
16 dB 40
13 dB 20
10 dB 10
9 dB 8
8 dB 6.31
7 dB 5.01
6 dB 4
5 dB 3.16

This means that reduced in 5 db the ratio of two power quantities corresponds to be reduced 3.16 times.

neutral  Jennifer Levey: The ST in fact says "disminuido en 5db(A)" - which is absolutely complete and correct - so your 1st sentence is irrelevant. All your references to "dB", including in your proposed translation, should read "dB(A)". This is acoustics, not electronics.
