Residual current device and circuit breaker Explanation: I’m sure this has been asked before, but I’m on my mobile and the search isn’t working very well for me to find previous answers. Interruptor diferencial is a residual current device (RCD). This is a safety device that compares the current flowing in and out of the equipment. If there is an electrical fault or short circuit, this will trip very quickly to avoid possible shocks to the user. It’s the same “switch” you find in your fusebox at home with the “test” button. The magnetothermal is a circuit breaker, which is the switch that controls power to the circuits, and can be used to isolate them. This isn’t so much a safety device, but does help prevent drawing too much current. It doesn’t trip unless there is a higher current flowing that it’s designed for. (in your fuse box at home, you’d have a few of these, for lights, sockets in different rooms, the electric job, etc) |
