Medical - Insurance / Type of insurance coverage
Spanish term or phrase: Pago por capitado
I've run into the term "Capitado" in the patient data section of a lab test report from Colombia. It says: "Capitado: NO". In my research, I found the expanded term "pago por capitado" or "capitación" (see the following, from Peru (I assume it's comparable to the situation in Colombia): https://www.esan.edu.pe/sala-de-prensa/2018/12/app-de-hospit...

This appears to be a type of medical insurance or healthcare funding in which the hospital is paid a pre-determined fixed amount per patient who is enrolled in the "pago por capitado" system regardless of the care provided.

My question: is there any equivalent term in English, or does this simply require an explanatory footnote.

Thanks! - Paul Froese

These types of payments are determined by a medical provider and insurance company, pre-arranged payments received by a physician, clinic, or hospital per patient.

Asker: Thanks Derek! Capitation looks like it fits. I'd be interested to know who adopted the term from whom (Spanish to English or vice versa?).
