Spanish term or phrase: poro
Hi,

I'm translating some product descriptions for a retail website from Spanish into British English and am having trouble with part of a description for a tap. The phrase in question is found in the following sentence: 'Aplicable agujero cuenca, el tamaño de poro 32-35mm'

The product in question can be found at the following link: https://www.amazon.es/dp/B01D9OVDPE

Could someone help please?

Many thanks!

mounting hole
Explanation:
32-35 mm is not the size of a pore!

Don't ask me how they got to "poro". This seems to be a German tap so something probably got messed up in translation. Anyway, here's the same tap in English; the description's in a different order and not identical, but I think it's pretty clear that "agujero cuenca" is a bad translation of whatever the German is for basin hole, in other words the hole in the basin where you mount the tap:

"Features:
- Mounting hole: 1
- Mounting hole diameter: Approx. 35 mm
- Net Weight: 680 g
- Total weight: 810g
3/8 inch flexible connection hoses
Cartridge: 35 mm ceramic disc cartridge"
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DBY8EYU/ref=asc_df_B01DBY8EYU...

"Mounting hole" is OK in English:

"Fixing mono-block (single hole) mixer taps
Mono-block mixer taps (single hole) require a 35mm mounting hole and use 10mm screw connections for the water feeds"

agree  neilmac: LOL, you're probably right... How they got to "poro" is anybody's guess :-)

  -> Cheers, Neil :) Amazon is a treasure trove of dreadful Spanish (and English).

agree  Robert Carter: Yes, I just assumed it meant a hole. This is the problem with translating from translations instead of the source.

  -> Absolutely! Thanks, Robert.

NB: It looks like Charles is right. I don't think you can have "pores" as large as that. However, I'll leave my suggestion here for now, so people can have a laugh :-)

Example sentence(s):
  • Filtering Tap Water. ... Look for a filter that has a pore size of 1 micron or less.
