Carnitine y guaranine Explanation: You're right. It must be a spelling mistake. Guaraninek doesn't exist. Attached you will find what Panacea (Boletín de Medicina y traducción) tells you about "guanine": theine. [Quím.] Este nombre se dio a una metilxantina de acción estimulante del sistema nervioso central que se aisló a partir del té. Cuando posteriormente se comprobó que era idéntica a la caffeine aislada del café (y también a la guaranine de la guaraná o la methyltheobromine del cacao), se reservó el nombre ‘cafeína’ para esta sustancia química y dejaron de utilizarse todos los antiguos sinónimos. En la actualidad, pues, tanto theine como guaranine y methyltheobromine deben traducirse siempre por cafeína. Cuando, por el motivo que sea, convenga especificar el origen de la cafeína, puede hacerse sin problemas con expresiones del tipo ‘la cafeína del té’. Hope it helps! |

carnitiline Explanation: The names of all the substances mentioned in your text are already in English. In Spanish they would be biorrubina, carnitina, etc. It looks as if they came from a translation En>Sp and left untranslated. So, if you are translating into English, leave them as they are. The other part of my comment is that many times the cosmetics industry uses pseudoscientific names to make customers think that they are getting something very special. I don't know for sure, but "carnitiline" sounds to me as falling into this category -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 56 mins (2005-03-08 12:26:12 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- If you Google \"carnitiline\" you will find many potions and lotions that include it as one of their ingredients, but I haven\'t found a proper scientific reference as to what this mysterious substance is. |
