Asker: ja ik had ook al op IATE gekeken, maar hoe vaak gebruikt men het woord civieltechnische werken... ik heb zo'n buikgevoel bij het woord dat het een pure calque is van het Frans of Spaans maar geen betekenis an sich heeft. Ik ken het niet als dusdanig in het Nederlands :)

agree  Riens Middelhof: "Obra civil" slaat op alles wat van steen, beton, hout, betonijzer enzovoorts wordt gemaakt, gebruikt om onderscheid aan te brengen met de "Ingeniería mecánica, hidráulica, electrónica" etc.

Het onderscheid wat ik bij Marga's bijdrage aanbracht zou je eventueel ook kunnen weglaten. In dat geval spreekt men in de civiele en cultuurtechniek (drainage, etc.) over kunstwerk.
