Slovak term or phrase: rodné priezvisko
existuje v angličtine oficiálny termín pre "rodné priezvisko" (muža)? pracujem na preklade staršieho rodného listu, kde sa uvádza, okrem iného, "rodné priezvisko otca". ďakujem za radu

birth name

Explanation:
with the variations "name at birth" and even the obscure "name at birth (of) father" (you see how one transsexual can screw up the whole system:)

the non-gender-specific birth name is now also used more than the ever more archaic maiden name.

family name

Explanation:
Myslím, že "family name" to vystihuje možno o niečo lepšie než "surname".

Tu je niečo o tom, prečo "née" v tomto prípade možno nebude najlepšie.

Notes to answerer
Asker: o "family name" som premýšľala, ale zdá sa mi to dosť nepresné do oficiálneho dokumentu - ono to presne nevystihuje to "priezvisko pri narodení"...

Asker: overovala som si to u známej, ktorá ma svoj vlastný rodný list úradne preložený, a tá tam má jednoducho uvedené "née"

Please pay attention to the relevant combinations of words which come up, for example, in my first link:
"Surname at birth (if different)" etc.

Please ignore sentences which are irrelevant in my second link (e.g. "take their father's surname at birth", which means that at birth they take their father's surname).

"Surname at birth", as a phrase in itself, is of course still valid.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Maria, to "starsi" netreba brat doslovne - jedna sa o rodny list osoby narodenej v r. 1984 - ide iba o "muzsky" ekvivalent (zrejme z dovodu zachovania konzistencie dokumentu) zenskeho "rodneho mena" - teda priezviska za slobodna. ja som len predpokladala, ze kedze je tento formular rodneho listu uz dlhe roky nemenny, snad sa s jeho prekladom uz niekto stretol...

Asker: a čo tak/and what about "né - masculine form of née, "born" " (zdroj/ref. wikipedia)?

Asker: Ďakujem za potvrdenie mojej teórie :o)

neutral  vic voskuil: it would be "né" in that case, (with the question whether it is still understood properly) and can only be used in the middle of a name, not as a heading.
