Bus/Financial - Retail / copyright in film distribution
Russian term or phrase: сдача в прокат и аренда
What is the difference between these two terms? The excerpt is from a text about copyrights and video distribution. If the difference turns out to be as piddling as the difference between "rent" and "hire", then I will probably leave out one of these terms in translation. Am I too radical for you all?

Here's more context:

Главным условием для изготовления тиража экземпляров АВП в России является наличие у правообладателя прокатного удостоверения для тиражирования в целях продажи, сдачи в прокат и аренду, распространения через видеотеки и прокатные пункты.

Not the same obviously.

прокат is usually short-tem renting, normally for personal use only although there is a notable exception of movies which are used for public (for profit) performances.

аренда is a longer-term lease which typically involves more [temporary] rights been transferred to the lease holder.

That's why I believe both terms are needed - the set of rights, what exactly is transferred is different.
