Russian term or phrase:
An old woman is chastising her younger relatives for turning their backs on the past.

I understand what the passage means but I am struggling to put it into a form that doesn't read like a literal translation. Any suggestions?

English translation:something has gone away that may not come again
Explanation:
How would the old lady talk? Maybe she'd say "old things," rather than "the old." Maybe she'd use a pronoun, rather than repeating "old." Maybe "the new" could be expressed with "again."

"It's not a good idea to make fun of old things that are past their time. You might just not notice that with them something's gone away that may not come again."

It brings to mind "Binsey Poplars," the poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins: "After-comers cannot guess the beauty been."

gone with the old out with the new / gone with the old lost with the new

Explanation:
I would say:
You may not even notice what's gone with the old out with the new or lost with the new

Here it is about the values, traditions, customs and memories that you can't find in the new

disagree  The Misha: GT translation: with the old will leave what may not come with the new. If you ask me, Google did a better job here.

'We will build a new world,' and destroying the old one to the ground.

Explanation:
as a jest

disagree  Susan Welsh: It says nothing about building a new world or destroying anything to the ground (even if that were good English, which it is not).

disagree  The Misha: I knew at the first glance you were reinventing the bicycle. I mean, rewriting the International. And the point of it here is...?
