Russian term or phrase: шахта имени Героев Космоса
Вопрос состоит в том, как по внутреннему чутью (или по устоявшейся практике) сейчас обычно переводят такие странные топонимы? Транскрипция/транслитерация/перевод? Geroev Kosmosa mine? imeni Geroev Kosmosa? А если шахта на территории Украины или Беларуси? Транскрибировать название на соответствующем государственном языке - Heroyiv Kosmosu?
Контекст - в частности, название дипломной работы по геологии, которая состояла в определенных действиях (расчетах) по этой шахте.

English translation:Geroev Kosmosa mine/pit
Explanation:
I would go for this option suggested by Serge, as it seems to be functioning as a toponym. That way anyone who is interested would be able to find it. It would also resolve a lot of other issues ("Heroes of the Cosmos"/"Cosmic Heroes"/"The Heroes of the Cosmos"??) which would arise. Not to mention the confusion if you started translating it into German, French, etc....
If need be, the name could be explained at some later point in the text

I haven't had anything in Russian, but I recently translated something about the Wujek Coal Mine in Poland. Translating it literally as the "Uncle mine" (Wujek = "uncle") in Polish would have been confusing.

One can add the standard Russian transliteration, so the whole translation would be Heroes of Cosmos mine (rus: shachta Geroyev Kosmosa).
