Russian term or phrase: система автоматики аварийных дизелей
This is from a description by Sergei Kirienko of what distinguishes the two units at Fukushima (#5 and 6) that emerged intact from the tsunami:

I am assuming that дизель here means "diesel generator," but then I am left with the question of how the "diesels" can be "below the diesels" or "above the diesels." Also the word автоматика is unclear to me: does it mean the automatic controls that start the diesel generator in case of emergency?

Thanks!

Automated (Control) System of Emergency Diesel Generators
Explanation:
Positioning of DGs automations is quite prudent if the controls are above DGs but not underneath.

Thanks! (I still don't see what good it does to have the controls on the roof if the generators are in the flooded basement, but I'll let the engineers figure that one out.)

Asker: Thanks, I forgot to look at your PDF. This does make sense.

agree  TechLawDC: It is the control that is located above or below the diesel. It does not matter whether the "diesel" is an engine or a generator, in this context.
