Человек, который направляется в лес, ни в коем случае не должен говорить, что идет туда ненадолго и скоро вернется.
Устная история: Она сказала: "Ой, я недолго схожу! Схожу я, -- говорит, -- недолго, што у меня болото там есь, я вас не возьму на это, это болото, за ягодами, за морошкой". Но, говорят, как туды пошла, сарафан создануло и ты ... ветки-то все зашумело ... это лес-то, и пошла, пошла, пошла, и от нас она пошла, и, видно, туды черт поднес, и она заблудилась ...
OK, I understand that this is dialect, and I understand that folks don't always make sense when they talk, but I can't figure out what in the world the informant is thinking when she says "сарафан создануло и ты ..."? (The informant is a woman telling the sotry of another woman who got lost.)

Думаю, что одежда здесь вовсе не причем, а "сарафан создануло" надо пониммать в переносном смысле. Что-то вроде "крыша поехала", женщина пошла не туда и заблудилась. Так что нужно разговорное выражение типа blow one's top. Тут носителям английского лучше знать, какой эквивалент выбрать.

Думаю, что одежда здесь вовсе не причем, а "сарафан создануло" надо пониммать в переносном смысле. Что-то вроде "крыша поехала", женщина пошла не туда и заблудилась. Так что нужно разговорное выражение типа blow one's top. Тут носителям английского лучше знать, какой эквивалент выбрать.

neutral  Andrei Yefimov: возможно, что вы правы...но почему именно сарафан? никогда не слышал, чтобы это слово употреблялось в таком контексте. И дальше по тексту: ветки-то все зашумело..Вроде как ветер подул...

  -> Почему сарафан, не знаю. Согласитесь, Андрей, что весь текст нелогичный и беспорядочный. Рассказчица падежов не соблюдает. Ветер может не иметь отношение к сарафану, а быть просто впечатлением от ситуации.

Asker: Thanks you Andrei, Natalia and Remedios for your ideas. It may not be particularly helpful in solving the problem, but here is an interesting point from a previous paragraph explaining what happens in the general case: оказавшись в лесу, человек теряет ориентацию и не модет найти дорогу; его "водит", "пугает"; иногда ему встречается леший и том или ином обилии. I am inclined to think that сарафан создануло may indeed have something to do with the wind (зашумело), however I am always extremely reluctant to assume that there is a mistake in the text. Much more likely that the mistake is in my understanding of it. Thanks! Jim
