Agriculture / orchards
Russian term or phrase: pristvoljnij krug / приствольный круг
I transcribed Russian version as I'm not sure if the characters are going to appear the right way, excuse me, if I transcribed wrongly, Russian is not one of my working languages.

This question was originally posted in Latvian-English ,then in English monolingual Kudoz section, but a 100% correct answer was not found.
The Latvian equivalent denotes the area around the base of a tree/trees or bushes (e.g.in an orchard), that has to be kept free from weeds. The versions proposed were planting bed, bed, surrounding soil, border, pan and several others, but none of these seem to depict the Latvian version precisely. Also, there are very few materials available in Latvian concerning this term, as opposed to the above-mentioned Russian term which gets a lot of hits in Google and seems to be used very consistently.
The term applies to trees/berry bushes that are planted in an orchard and appears in an application for State aid to introduce integrated fruit production in Latvia. It's also used in landscaping terminology, e.g.,for trees in city parks. It is definitely not a furrow.
As to the content - it can be soil only, there can be mulch placed on it, but the term doesn't apply to the content, but to the area.

These are some links to pictures of how it looks in real life:

Asker: thanks for the advice, but it might as well not be mulched or circular. We already had a really hard time with this in Latvian section,I guess it's not going to be any easier here:)

Explanation:
I don't believe there is any particular term for приствольный круг in English. The answers already offered convey the meaning. The examples below give some idea of the term, including circular bed.
