favoritism; nepotism Explanation: I think Nepotism only applies to family members. http://blog.eskill.com/favoritism-nepotism-workplace/ Favoritism is exactly what it sounds like: favoring someone not because he or she is doing a great job, but for reasons outside of the job performance. ... Another form of favoritism is nepotism. From the Italian word for nephew, “nipote,” nepotism is showing favor to family members. |

has the right connections Explanation: This an informal way of saying it and very common in the U.S. http://www.teclasap.com.br/qi-como-se-diz-qi-quem-indica-em-... Antes, bastava ter QI para conseguir um bom emprego. Hoje, tempos difíceis obrigam empresas a só contratar profissionais dentro do perfil adequado. In the past, all you needed were the right connections to get a good job. Nowadays, difficult times force companies to only contract professional people with a suitable profile. This expression comes from a play on words. QI officially stands for quociente de inteligência, in English, IQ or intelligence quotient, the standardized test to measure intelligence. However, QI can also stand for quem indica ‘the one who proposes, nominates or gives your name’, and uses their influence to help you. |
