Leitura flutuante - Consiste em estabelecer o contato com os documentos a analisar e conhecer o texto, deixando-se invadir por impressões e orientações.

Quanto ao material das entrevistas, após a transcrição e a conferência de sua fidelidade, iniciou-se a leitura flutuante, uma das etapas do processo de análise do material empírico na pesquisa qualitativa (Bardin, 1977). A leitura flutuante inicia o que se denomina de técnica de impregnação, isto é, a leitura em profundidade de cada um dos relatos até dominar o todo de um mesmo depoimento (Schraiber, 1995).

Apparently the original document was written in Portuguese (Bardin). What I found is "quick read" but would like confirmation, if possible.

In graduate school, we referred to this concept of going over multiple texts to pull out the general meaning and highlights of the texts as "skimming the text." Skimming means getting the gist of it and is done faster than reading something comprehensively , not necessarily getting all the details. One may also "scan" texts to pick out particular items of importance.
