Thanks very much for your help Cris but I found the answer elsewhere. Approach used in this sense can only take a thing, not a person, so the correct would be to throw another word in there: dietary approach to the management of bariatric patients.

This question is not as simple as it looks. It seems approach used in this sense is always followed by "to."
