I am not used to hearing "vaporized" used in economics or money matters, but I did come across this WSJ article where it does say "(...) a "significant amount" of the money could have "vaporized" as a result of (...)":

This is the context:

"Dos primeiros 3,9 mil milhões que o Estado emprestou, uma parte signicativa foi vaporizada com o perdão concedido pelo Governo ao Fundo de Resolução, que ficou com mais tempo para pagar e juros mais baixos – o economista XX, citado pelo Público, estima que os contribuintes tenham sido lesados em mais de 50% do que tinham a receber."

I get that it's in the sense that the funds are missing or have disappeared, but that these notions don't quite cover the meaning of "vaporizados" either. Although I'm open to using "vaporized," I'm look for other ideas or way to express this.
