Niedopił jest prostopadły do kierunku obalania. Zarówno głębokości rzazów, jak i rozmiar zawiasy, też są określone w stosunku do grubości drzewa. Do podnoszenia drzewa od strony rzazu ścinającego do góry i nachylania go w stronę planowanego upadku służą kliny.
