In the U.S., the education system is different from the Norwegian, thus science track. See:

Graduation Requirements
CRLS students must pass the MCAS exam and earn 224 credits in
order to receive a diploma. The credits must include these
distributional requirements:

Visual, Performing or Technical Arts 20 credits
Health 5 credits
Mathematics 30 credits
Science 30 credits
Social Studies 20 credits
United States History 10 credits
World Language (2 courses in sequence) 20 credits
Students must also take and pass physical education each
year.
CRLS students are also encouraged to learn to be technologically
proficient in the areas of word processing, research, numeric data
analysis, and the use of design technology.
