Construction of boundaries Explanation: The construction of boundaries as an anthropological concept was established by Norwegian anthropologist Fredrik Barth in "Ethnic groups and boundaries" (1969). It is the concept of boundaries being the subject of constant negotiation and reproduction between different ethnic groups (and, in its logical extension, nations). The entire sentence would be something like this: "In the introductory chapter we argue that the construction of boundaries does not only include the physical delineation of a nation state's territory and sovereignty, but also its citizens' spatial practices over time, especially those living in border areas." |
