I am in no doubt about what "bumiputera" means, but I would like to know if there is a standard or official way of translating it in this context.

It is one of three headings (for equity holders in a company) as follows:

-- Bumiputera
-- Bukan Bumiputera
-- Asing

All I can think of is "Ethnic Malay" but I don't know how correct this is.

Asker: Once again, thank you for your very prompt help. "Indigene" is indeed in the dictionary, but I don't know how official that is as a translation of Bumiputera. Again, I will wait to see if this is confirmed.

Explanation:
Could also mean asli or indiginous or orang asli . Native also means pribumi or aborigine. The Federal constitution of malaysia does not define Bumiputra. It only talks about Natives and Malays under Article 153.
But in this sense, the person who is bumiputra is "earth's son" or "son of the soil" sanskrit combination of bumi (earth) and putra (son).
