Japanese term or phrase: 承接
Hello everyone!

I'm translating a paper on modal markers in Early Middle Japanese.

モダリティ形式同士の承接においても常に上位に位置する (例「ベカラム」「マジカメリ」) Aは疑問文での使用の可否に関して二類に分かれ、互いに承接することはない。

The term 承接 occurs twice in this sentence, but I can't grasp the meaning.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

English translation:Conjunction/connect
Explanation:
The term 承接 means in general "前の部分を受けて後へ続けること."
In the examples, two modal markers, ベカラ and ム, are connected. So are マジカリ and メリ(they become マジカメリ when connected). It sounds some modal markers are not used together in interrogative sentences according to the statement here.

Thank you for looking into this for me. You're right. The paper was about the interconnectivity of modal markers and other grammatical parts. In the end I chose "blend", rather than "connect". Many thanks
